Sources: 1) Family correspondence 2) Supplements to London Gazette 1) Henry Hubert Hill was commissioned on the 1st July 1938 into the Royal Fusiliers. He volunteered for SOE and joined them in June 1943. He was parachuted into Greece on the 11th August 1943. He worked ferrying food etc. which was brought in from Turkey in caiques up to the fighters in the mountains. Later he was transferred up into the mountains where he worked blowing up German trains. There is reference to him in the book “Beyond Olympus” by Chris Jecchinis and a photograph opposite Page 128 in the book. 2a) London Gazette 16 June 1948: Capt H H Hill awarded Greek honour – Knight of the Royal Order of King George 1 with swords for services in Greece. 2b) London Gazette 8 Dec 1953: Major H H Hill awarded Military Cross for services in Korea.
