NOTES
Source: Son (Murray) “Ralph was liberated on 6th May 1945. Whilst a PoW, he had a relationship with a young local lady, Anni Egger. He wrote on his General (MI9?) Questionnaire that he was engaged to her and he would return to Austria and bring her to Scotland. She had helped him with food and news of the Allied Advances. In the end, he never returned for her and eventually married my mother. He never spoke much about his war experience. He died in 1991 (aged 72). Archivist’s Note: For a detailed account of 708 Con Coy activities before & during the Greek Campaign, and the experiences of one of their Sappers as a PoW, see the Archive Folder of Gilleasbuig Maclean and his autobiography titled “The Long, Long Years”.
